Update to Image Theft Accusations

I would like to thank the Gracemounts for their kindness and detective work. Yesterday Ava Jhamin and Trinity Aironaut accused myself and Eleseren of stealing an image. It turns out they had stolen the image themselves.

Here is the image they accused us of stealing: https://www.flickr.com/photos/trinityaironaut/31245670484/in/dateposted/ and here is the image they stole it from without crediting the artist: http://inertiarose.deviantart.com/art/They-call-me-Fall-139548167

Kultivate Magazine or The Edge, nor anyone on our staff has to steal from anyone, I hope we can put this matter behind us. Beware of doing business with people like Ava Jhamin and Trinity Aironaut, as well as L’Amour Modeling Productions

Sincerely,

Johannes1977 Resident,
Owner & Publisher of Kultivate Magazine

Editorial: What Trump’s Win Means for The Arts

Kultivate has largely tried to remain out of the election fray, only allowing slight commentary in our in world group. But as we are an arts magazine, I feel that it is important to spell out what Trump’s win means for the arts in America.

It is no secret that the arts are always under attack. Usually in public schools, art programs are the first to be cut when a budget crunch hits. From art teachers to music teachers, their numbers have dwindled in America’s public schools. Back when I attended high school, in the late 80’s and early 90’s, I can remember my high school having 4 art teachers, 4 music teachers, and many English and literature teachers. My high school offered Art 1 to 4, photography, painting, chorus, band, etc..Fast forward to last year at my nephews high school and he has confirmed that there was only 1 art teacher and 1 music teacher, with less offerings.

Curator’s Corner: Finding The Perfect Gallery Build

If you are a curator or a gallery owner in Second Life, you may have ran into the problem of finding a building that meets your gallery requirements. I know that when I changed galleries early during the building of Windlight Art Gallery, it took me about 2 months to find the current build that I am using.

There are a few things to consider when trying to find that perfect build:

  1. How Many Prims Do You Have? This is very important because if your land can only hold a small number of prims, then your gallery build will have to reflect this. While mesh is prevalent on the grid, at times your preferred build may still be over your land’s prim budget
  2. Land Size: This too will influence the type of build that you use for your gallery. You could have a smaller parcel but benefit from many prims due to land group sharing of prims or by sim prim bonuses.
  3. Cost: Just how much do you want to spend on the gallery? This does not mean you cannot find a decent gallery building, it does mean that a custom job may be out of the question if you cannot afford it.
  4. Gallery Theme: What is the theme of the gallery? For example if your theme is medieval you probably will not want a very modern looking gallery building and vice versa.
  5. Number of Artists: This will influence the type of partitions you may or may not use for artists to set up in your gallery. If the gallery is just for your own personal artwork, then this obviously will not be an issue, but if you would like a decent number of artists, then you will want a decent sized building to set up in.
  6. Will the Gallery Host Events? If you do not have the land size to host events say outside the gallery, then you will probably host events in the gallery. Will the gallery build be large enough to host events you may want to have in support of the artists?

After considering these items, choose your preferred build and begin setting up your gallery! In the next Curator’s Corner we will discuss how and where to find artists.

From The Editor’s Desk

An Editorial: On Whom Ill Words Reflect…

In establishing Windlight and Kultivate brands in Second Life, I’ve been amazed at the outpouring of talent and support I’ve received. In the course of 15 months, what started as an idea to establish a gallery and magazine to support visual arts in Second Life has grown into something which amazes me.

It would be easy to declare the success of both Kultivate and Windlight as being down to myself, or one or two others – but the truth is, the success runs much broader than any individual. Kultivate and Windlight are about a broad range of people from across Second Life, all of whom are willing to put their time, effort, talent, skill, and support into our magazine, our shows, and our events. Artists, writers, creators, designers, models, performers – all of them have played parts large and small in building Kultivate and bringing success to our door.
