In September 2016, I previewed a new machinima series, Future Shock, by Pryda Parx. At that point in time, the first episode had just been released, and Pryda was kind enough to allow me see the next two in the series. What I saw was intriguing in terms of story, setting and production values. Given the final episode was released just before Christmas, it seemed a good opportunity to watch the episodes back-to-back and talk a little more to Pryda about the work.

Journey: an award-winning film by Radheya Jegatheva
Congratulations are due once again to Radheya Jegatheva, a talented young film-maker from Australia on his latest triumph: he’s just beaten an Academy Award winner at his own game!
Radheya is the 17-year-old son of Second Life’s Jayjay Zifanwe of UWA fame – his also an aspiring film-maker I’ve been avidly watching since catching initial footage of his then work-in-progress piece Journey, and have previously cover his short films, the machinima piece The Tyger, in July 2016 and his live action piece for the #MyFreoStory video competition in May 2016.
Radheya Jegatheva: young filmmaker and machinima maker
However it is with Journey – a story of two astronauts stranded in space – that Radheya has once again triumphed at the Port Shorts Film Festival – and in doing so, has bested 2015 Academy Award winner Patrick Osborne at his own…

On October 7, my new movie ‘Activate Your Higher Mind’ is premiering in San Francisco, California. The show is an exclusive event, if you want to attend you need to contact me so I can put you on the guest list. You are very welcome! The film (machinima) is a one hour vision on Art in Virtual Reality, and perhaps a retrospect on 8 years in Second Life, but more so a very personal journey into the future.

inara covers the new Drax Files World Makers episode and interviews Drax!
Inara Pey: Living in a Modemworld
The 38th video of The Drax Files World Makers arrived on Wednesday, June 8th, focusing on fashion designer Eboni Khan, who has been designing women’s apparel for the last decade, marketing it through her Hucci brand. However, this segment isn’t simply another examination of the creative and income generation opportunities offered by Second Life. While Eboni’s experience is very much central to the video, there is a lot packed into the three-and-a-half-minute running time, which makes this another fascinating piece.
As we learn in the video, Eboni’s ability to use Second Life as a viable means of income generation wasn’t entirely a conscious decision; trained in information management and employed as an IT manager, Eboni’s world was turned upside down when she was laid off. Second Life offered her the means to work for herself and earn an income which would enable her to…

The Drax Files World Makers show #37 arrived on Thursday, April 21st. Once again, this is one of the shorter World Makers videos, running to just one second under 3.5 minutes. The subject this time around is an overview of Nonprofit Commons, designed to lower the barriers of access to Second Life, to create a community of practice for non-profits to explore and learn about the virtual world, and to investigate the many ways in which non-profits might utilize virtual spaces.
As such, this is something of a departure from recent World Makers segments. Rather than following a single narrative, it presents a series of sound bites for those responsible for the various organisations, groups and communities which for Nonprofit Commons, allowing them to provide a concise overview of who they are and what they do…
