Elysium Review December 11 2016 – Hot December Nights

Elysium Cabaret

The holidays are in full effect at Elysium Cabaret, as this weekend presented a Winter gala full of fun and festivity. The stage was often frosty, but spirits were warm, as host Paul Woodrunner and hostess Shayna gave everyone a welcome as sweet as a cupcake. Even our gravely DJ, Gunner von Phoenix, sounded jolly as Saint Nick as he introduced each merry act and kept the Yuletide tunes flowing. The audience settled in for a long Winter’s show that was sometimes fantastical, sometimes flamboyant, and always full of fun – even during a toasty trip to a torch-lit dungeon!

Act One: Jo with Seb, Ayita and Maia – Cold December Night – Michael Bublé

The night began with a merry romp to the Bublé tune, Cold December Night, featuring Jo‘s dance in the snow – and with the snow! Traditional snowmen with stovetop hat and carrot…

‘The Pearl and the Olive Tree’ | Avilion Arts

On Sunday, October 8th,  Moon Aerandir broke new ground in ACT with his innovative work, ‘The Pearl and the Olive Tree..’ This form of storytelling theatre involves a narrator sharing a story in character as the actors enact parts of it on the stage. Padstow Jack’s early life came to life as the dramatic events of his quest to win the woman he loved unfolded by means of Pipit Peacedream’s effective interpretation of Moon’s tale.  The cast were: Padstow Jack as himself;  Pipit Peacedream as Rosie, his childhood friend; Maat as his wife, and Bardy and Layne as ships crew. A rousing Shanty party followed this story theatre presentation with captivating tunes to keep the audience, many of whom were dressed as pirates, entertained and dancing many a merry jig.  This event was a jointly sponsored by ACT and the Avilion Bards.

Stunning Selections at the September Matinee

Elysium Cabaret reviews their performances from September:

Elysium Cabaret

The house was packed, the lights were dimmed, the DJ warmed up his mic setting the stage for yet another action packed Matinee at Elysium Cabaret. SL seemed to play nice as the afternoon kicked off, leaving most in peace to enjoy the smorgasbord of dance presented by the talented choreographers. Without further ado, here comes the review for the first Fall matinee.

Sound of Silence by Epic Rock

The first to grace our stage was the beautiful Eva with her routine stunning the audience with a simple, changing backdrop that made use of highly effective graphics to accompany the bittersweet melody. Joining Eva were Misha Selene, Nadi, Tauriel, Cowgrl, Si De Brit and Zach Starostin who danced their way through several astounding astounding costume changes, leaving even myself wondering how she did it. A breathtaking routine for not only the use of choeography, sets and costuming but -more importantly- for the message…

Elysium’s Time, Silence and Schism – 9/9/16

Elysium Cabaret

On Friday, September 9, 2016, Elysium used the dance floor to explore the landscape of the human mind and spirit. The glory of dance became a journey through ideal and isolation, agony and mortality, ecstasy and frivolity. From the fun-loving to the heart-rending, this performance toured the spectrum of experience, ending with a dance where – as in the global community known as Second Life – we all joined hands. Paul Woodrunner kept everyone in line as the house host. Gunner Von Phoenix kept us in harmony as emcee on the microphone. The artists carried us away, playing tunes set to the rhythm of the heart and mind.

Act One: Tray – ‘Write On Me’ – Fifth Harmony

The audience was drawn into the evening’s opening act – literally – as Tray used the latest in SL camera direction technology to guide the audience into a performance that appeared to…

‘Albert and the Lion’ | Avilion Arts

The Scottish poet, Marriott Edgar created monologues about Albert and the Lion for Stanley Holloway to perform. Inspired by these performances, Iddy Schmooz presents her own adaptation for the stage featuring the tale of the young lad, Albert, who was swallowed on a visit to the zoo by the lion, Wallace. Her script and imaginative sets capture all the hilarity of the situation as Albert disappears and finally returns. The script is punctuated by several peppy song and dance numbers from the 1920s. Iddy Schmooz is the director and Moon Aerandir is the Dramaturge. This play is one of two new offerings in ACT’s ‘Double Bill’ to be performed on August 28th at 1 p.m..Share this:

‘Legend of Arthur and Avalon’ | Avilion Arts

Inspired by Marion Zimmer Bradley’s book, Mists of Avalon, Maathator has created a new play based on the legend of King Arthur.  Her narrative theatre piece  will be presented at 1pm on Sunday, August 7th, on the ACT Stage.  Maathator’s vision of Arthurian times focuses on some of the key events in Arthur’s reign, such as: his coronation,  his desire to have a heir, and his eventual downfall at the hand of Mordred, his son.  In addition, the audience meets some of the women who influenced his life, including: Guinevere and Morgana. Not only has Maathator developed the script, but she has sourced the costumes and created the sets to accompany her staged production. Choreographer Kalia and Dramaturge Bajoy have also contributed to the production.  Congratulations to Maathator and everyone else associated with the production for bringing this epic tale to life on the stage!
