Traveling in world, I visited Red Square in Moscow. The rendering architecture is a fantastic tribute to Red Square Moscow in RL. I decided to seek out a gallery that contained some pieces created by Russian artists. What I found was an artistic parade of artists on the second floor of Tiger Lily. This club is owned by Resident Ziggy Stardust who was there when I visited.
Almost a dozen artists have contributed works of art to the gallery. All of the images share a similar theme depicted very differently by each artist. Ziggy described the theme best to me in Russian. My translation is close to ‘psyche of the human mind’. I would agree with that very apt description. Artists give us expressions from their minds. These pieces deliver disturbing elements to review and to consider in context. These thoughts on canvas represent the artists’ method to take their mental expressions and to move them from 2 dimensional to 3 dimensional. Many artists heal ever so slightly by the process. We all contain darkness, through this discovery of those ready to share their in art, we only learn.
Artist Laura Sanders delivers a thoughtful piece. A base image with others superimposed upon this base. Country house in the background is that base. Three women appear in the picture. Two are placed together huddled by a fire clearly drinking bottled water. Thick brush strokes move from these two and swirl in grey around the figure of an African woman, perhaps African American. She is drinking from a glass bottle with unknown contents. The wood from the fire is crisp and detailed. Struggles, more than one, are in this piece. They are intertwined in art and in life. The clothing will tell you more of the story, detailed and deliberate.
Artist Kafka brings a portrait that contains many historical art influences as well as subtle expressions. It is a very complicated piece giving layers of meaning. The base portrait may be one of Vince Van Gogh’s self portraits. As I spent time with this piece, the anatomy seems to vary. Picasso controlled chaos through out. I felt the most telling parts are the fingerprint and the historical document. I see much control in this portrait, control of the uncontrollable. There is identity conflict of the individual or society or perhaps both with a historical catalyst.
There are two Anonymous artists in this show. One of these contributed a skeleton focus point in their piece. Death is not an as uncomfortable a theme in world [distanced by medium] as it is in our First Life. This Anonymous artist shares a piece of sorrow for a lost love, and drinking to death to assuage the feelings. Skeleton hunched over bar with multiple empty shot glasses, beautiful woman from behind in the back ground meeting a shadow of an oncoming man. Reds and details through out.
ArtDoge has a piece in this collection titled ‘Avarkus the Red Death’. A fiery demon skeleton rising up from others. Detailed claws of grey grasping entrails in one and a golden mask in the other. Even in death we try to mask it and make it ever so easier to view and to deal with in life.
Resident artist Monet uses the historical artist Monet’s classic piece of his wife walking on a summer day ‘Woman with a Parasol’. Our Resident Monet renders the color and the brush strokes of historical Monet then introduces a darkness with Darth Vader. An attempt to provide exit for those who view it as comic and walk away. This is not comic, it is a personal social commentary of diverging worlds. With the usage of Darth Vader I feel that the artist uses humor or other distractions to lead those around him to stay away from vulnerable issues.
Other artists include Jamie Salmon, Hiroyuki Takahashi, Ryohei Hase and Tasha Marie. I was only able to view samples of their soon to be displayed work. Captivating, diverse, expressive and each very individualistic.
As to Ziggy Stardust, if you aren’t familiar with the name it was created by David Bowie for his album ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars”. Ziggy is an extraterrestrial messenger who plays in a rock band. Artfully yours, Saoirse Heart
