COMA : I Can’t Speak

Saoirise reviews the new exhibition, “COMA: I Can’t Speak:”

“I heard the wheels…loud…who was he…? I didn’t see a face and…I didn’t want to die in the dark rain…I froze…that’s how it goes”                                   GlitterPrincess Destiny

Walking into COMA, I was thrilled that our artist provided a picture of the suggested Firestorm settings. It is so much easier to make sure you have them set when you can see the screens. I am fortunate enough to be able to set my settings exactly as recommended. I visited the exhibit with both my standard graphics settings and the suggested ones. I also viewed the images with the audio of the artist and without it.

GlitterPrincess Destiny has compiled an immersive exhibition of photography, story and voice to provide an compelling artistic compilation of her artistic expression. This exhibit is provided in both English and Italian. She generously credited those who assisted her in making this unique exhibit happen. I have shared these the credits in my footnotes below this article.

One aspect of sharing art that is enjoyable and interesting to the artist is the interpretation by the viewer. This artist has provided an intimate and vulnerable diverse collection of images to consider. Along with the images is her voice revealing her inspiration for the images and their arrangement. I invite you, dear reader, to experience this installation when you have the time. It is almost 20 images in various colors and color treatments.

In a black room, with cameras set up and smooth ambiance, the images are lined around in a square to follow as the artist reads. I will share a few with you now of the mixed mediums.

In the first image there is rain coming down yet with the play of light the rain is sporadic giving it a dark and sinister feeling. Female figure has stopped abruptly on her bike, only the front of a car pierces this darkness. Most of the female figures in the images around the room are our artist.

“i had no control!”   excerpt from artist audio

An up close image of the artist, she looks alarmed, startled and perhaps frightened. The artist has a deliberate blurring of part of the image. Our figure is grasping something. As I hope you can tell from the way I am writing this review, this exhibit unfolds as you travel around the room.

Other images I will mention here are equally captivating; The abandoned bike, fallen on the ground, two tone color processing, obviously discarded in a hurry, no care in parking the bike before leaving it. An image of, what is that?, blood in snow with crisply and sharply colored tacks of 3D holding up the image.

There is a opening in these more individual images with a busier and fuller image. Inside a building we see a lopsided television, lopsided stool, figures both in the bed and an unusual one on the chair. A stairway curving up away from the image to the left. The image gives an almost Salvador Dali feel of surrealist expression.

The final image I will share with you in this review is another, even more surreal image. In a dream like image with color there is a female figure [not our artist] seated on a garden chair, her head is suspended neatly above the neck noticeably. Something has dripped down the front of the torso, but I can not be sure if it is blood or something else. In the upper left side of the image is a figure’s reflection, almost dancing, on the wet pavement.

If this sounds puzzling it is because I cannot reveal all of the images you will find in this exhibit. I am fairly certain that each visitor will take away a slightly different understanding of what you will find here. And that is what the artist will revel in, your thoughts and your emotions upon viewing her images.

The images are skilled in their composition, whether it is a black and white, a sepia or an image with color. The artist is skillful with light and focus so expect much movement in both light and focus between images. It is also apparent to me that the artist understands how to pull visual focus within the image for impact.

GlitterPrincess Destiny has given us a room to experience art in a variety of ways. Her talent is exciting, I can hardly wait to see what she creates for us next. Artfully Yours, Seersha

  2. What a wonderful summary of this work! This enchanting and compelling exhibition is so much more than an exhibit. Suffused with memory, trauma, and sentiment, you have to feel, listen, imagine and experience it for yourself. Truly mesmerising…love and hugs to Glitter for being so open and brave xoxo

  3. In my opinion what we can read in this article is a very well-done description of the last Glitter’s work.
I’m very sorry for with this my old pc I only can see that expo in low resolution, but I think that here Glitter made something really “into” the spirit, the possibility and the method of Second Life: with it we can really go into (not simply around) an art work and so be part of it and, in this case, so be part of the powerful cry of the artist.
Tank you Glitter and thank you Saorise!
