Perhaps the one notable difference in the group is Kayly Iali, who offers a series of her physical world paintings and sketches. These combine abstract with portraiture and oils to present a display which is both eye-catching and breath-taking – as can be seen from the image above.

Van’s Wild West Gallery ~ Ride On Over Before September 15, 2015

Saoirse reviews Van’s Wild West Gallery:

1-Screen Shot 2015-08-31 at 10.53.49 AM

Located on the Monissius SIM is a large art gallery owned and operated by Van Caerndow called “Van’s Wild West Gallery”. Our artist also owns a gallery near the Hotel Chelsea [VC Now Gallery] that is much smaller than this gallery with about 12 images at any given time. His specialty? Portraits of avatars on commission. TerryLynn Melody nicknamed him “the Cowboy Van Gogh” and many in world know him from his resident name. It is exciting to review the work of someone accomplished in both worlds. I have provided his first life art information below this review.

His partner, Yanne Proudfoot and he have a lovely spot to sit and relax in the backyard of the gallery. This spot has a view of the sea and they have set out all the amenities blankets, a few chairs, and near to the artist’s rocking chair, some lovely bales of hay to sit on complete with pitchfork and a horse nearby. After I walked through the gallery, I sat here to write, drinking one of the Wahne Tahiti Beers that reminded me I was thirsty. I love the interactive quality of some food and drink in world, chatting me up.

The artist works exclusively with first life materials. The artist uses Pebeo paint on glass creating all images in first life. All these images are then professionally scanned so he may make prints to bring in world. He has been working recently with acrylic on canvasses where he textures the canvas first then creates the image. One of the amazing aspects is that he doesn’t use any software in the creation of his portraits. The artist uses opaque and translucent paints to achieve the effect he is looking for with the image.

Arriving at the gallery, I stepped back and took a fly by overheard. The colors from the artist’s images can be seen from quite a distance. I recommend viewing the gallery images in a daytime light and midnight light. Straight away, when I entered the gallery, I was full of ideas of what I wanted to write about here today. Set up in a graduated upward moving circle, walking through the wide open hallways is pleasurable. I am struck by how these images look unique to me in a way I couldn’t have defined earlier. It is the Pebeo paint on glass effect, you can see some brush strokes here and there. It is quite a lovely effect and I can see how the artist easily made enough money to maintain this SIM for a long time.

Specializing in portraits, the artist has many images that are not of figures. On the first landing there is a smartly done image of Wrigley Field [famous American baseball field in Chicago]. The artist has detailed the area around the feet of the people awaiting entry to Wrigley Field in bright red. This detail balances the image nicely keeping the eye moving around to aspects other than the famous sign of the stadium. The sign itself is well done, not an easy feat working with paint of glass surface. Glass surface is unforgiving with no resistance to the brush strokes. All moment is carefully controlled by the artist.

I enjoy looking at the various portraits of avatars. I have not seen art with this much detail to the medium used, you can see the brush strokes he has made on each picture. This can not be taken lightly by the artist. His skill is demonstrated if you view the consistency and the direction of the strokes. You will see where the artist has moved around the canvas of glass quite literally. Take a moment and close your eyes…picture a brush filled with paint…imagine how it moves silently across the glass. If you do that, you will begin to share my wonder at this exhibition.

Another image I focused on has a Reads & Coffee shop, female biker outside, and the season is fall. The leaves on the tree are vividly done for us. The facade of the shop let’s us look inside the shop. There is a distinct calmness in this image, the sky is the light blue of the fall season. Next to this picture, the artist placed an image with a dark blue background. The neighboring dark background allows us to see a striking variation of color that is eye pleasing. I feel the artist enjoying the paint as he works on his canvas.

There is a pumpkin to sit against on the first floor, I love a place to sit and write in the gallery. Halloween coming up it seems a shame no one will be sitting on the pumpkin at that time. His images are quite varied so this artist cannot be called simply a portrait artist, and his work is far from simple. One of his newer images is a spiderweb with colors surrounding the images. Painting a spiderweb on a glass medium takes a steady focused hand to create. This image has colors moving inward, playfully, scattered about in an orderly but not linear fashion. A spider is most commonly viewed with dark images and negative connotations. Not with this artist, the spider’s web is fun and inviting making me recall the Charlotte’s web tale by E.B.White [also author of Stuart Little].

The artist has done an image similar to a cave painting.  The background contains the roughness of cave wall, the color is lighter than a cave, more complimentary to the Bison etched on the wall.  Not a luxury enjoyed by those original cave painters as I am sure the critics of their time were like to mention.  [that is a joke folks]  HIs image made me thing of the images from the Cave of Altamira, a discovery in Spain.  This particular paleolithic cave is famous for paintings of wild mammals and human hands.  This gallery was once part of an art installation called “Studio Genre”. A collective started over six years ago, this installation included 10 artists as well as music. It was a place of creation and a place of fun for its artists. It seems fitting that Van’s Wild West Gallery be situated at the location. The artist has art displayed at many places in world currently; his exhibit in “Star Journey” installation is titled “I Am” with photos of Avis girl next to paintings of Avis, his other gallery “VC Now” near the Chelsea Hotel as well as a new exhibit coming up
Sept 16 to Oct 20 with Owl Braveheart.
Try to visit this gallery before September 15, 2015 before it leaves world.  Artfully yours, Saoirse Heart

Profile Pic August 2015

Windlight Art Gallery is pleased to name it’s very first Artist in Residence: Wicca Merlin! Wicca will debut her new showing at the September 2015 exhibit, which will open officially on September 8, 2015. Below is Wicca’s official bio:

Wicca Merlin came to Second Life 2007 when a friend told her she could experience music from other countries as her home country of Germany did not afford her the same exposure to music from around the globe. Presently Wicca is a designer and has her own brand, Wicca’s Wardrobe. Wicca’s Wardrobe is a team of 4 people – Veovis, Redclaw and Wicca – who design and create together and Prisilla, who is the good soul and GM.
She is a well known, experienced and respected model and blogger who enjoys mentoring others. In her blogging and photography, she always strives to be different, bringing in her love of fantasy and Avant Garde, her photography always takes on a bit of an edge. Wicca was surprised that her photography would be considered art and was flattered to be invited to create an exhibit.

Meet the Windlight Art Fellows: SereneDean Resident & Roffellos Resident

For our last meet the Windlight Art Fellows article for August, we would like for you to meet SereneDean Resident and Roffellos Resident:

Dean PortraitSereneDean Resident’s Bio: aka “Dean” From the very first moment I began to explore Second Life, I was amazed at the beauty and creativity of those who have and continue to build this wonderful world. It is my privilege to be able to capture a tiny fraction of that beauty with my photographs. My eye is drawn to both natural wonders of the sky, sunsets and landscapes, but also to those wondrous creations of humans: cities, palaces, both new and very old.

Words cannot express the gratitude I have for my partner and soul mate Roxy who over the years has been my teacher, mentor, encourager as well as my beautiful model for countless pictures. She introduced me to weekly photohunting as well as the “tricks of the trade” in constructing better and better pictures, and while I do use those tools offered by my SL viewer, I stay away from using external photo enhancement tools in order to display what I’m actually seeing in this marvelous place we call Second Life.

RoffellosRoffellos Resident’s Bio: I am still relatively young in Second Life, but I find the whole place fascinating. SL allows for self expression, and as I explore this world, I have seen many interesting places and creations. I also like seeing how people use their avatars; giving themselves characteristics that make them unique. My pictures reflect what I see, particularly other avatars. People inspire most of my pictures, and as you view my work, you will discover a varied display of avatars images.
I have a long way to go yet as I learn more about what can and cannot be done; but I am happy with my creations so far.

Meet the Windlight Art Fellows: Wicca Merlin, Bluesrocker Resident, and Chrysterox Resident

This spotlight is on the following Windlight Art Fellows: Wicca Merlin, Bluesrocker Resident, and Chrysterox Resident:

Wicca Merlin - Closeup 2015 (1024x1024)
Wicca Merlin

Wicca Merlin came to Second Life 2007 when a friend told her she could experience music from other countries as her home country of Germany did not afford her the same exposure to music from around the globe. Presently Wicca is a designer and has her own brand, Wicca’s Wardrobe. Wicca was surprised that her photography would be considered art and was flattered to be invited to create an exhibit.

Bluesrocker Self PortraitI’ve been involved in the arts most of my life. Coming from a musical background, I have had a very keen appreciation of the creative process, whether it be in music, the performing arts, painting, writing or photography. Having that interest sparked my involvement in the artistic possibilities of Second Life.

As for the creating of the photos, I much prefer shooting out on location in the multitude of amazing sims which populate SL than in a studio, as I feel I get much better results that way. Since starting seriously taking photographs in SL about a year and a half ago, I have broadened my horizons in what wonders this virtual world has to offer. Really, the only limits are those of the imagination.

I like to be diverse in my works, and I love taking portraits, landscapes and profile photos equally. Wherever my muse takes me at any given time. I do strive to push the boundaries of what can be done with Second Life photography.

In addition to SL photography, I currently run an on again, off again SL travel blog, Blue Bones Bagat with my partner Bones Delicioso-Rocker, a chronicle of our journeys through the various amazing builds Second Life has to offer :

http://bluebonesbagat.blogspot.com/
To see more of my work you can go to my Flickr page https://www.flickr.com/photos/bluesrocker007/

I would like to thank two people, without whom I would not be doing what I am doing today. Kaijah Chrome, whose photography class spurred me to pursue photography in Second Life, and Bones Delicioso-Rocker. My partner in love and crime. My muse more than she will ever know.

ChrysTeRox
Chrysterox Resident

An avid SL Explorer, I enjoy the creativity I find in art, design, music and dance. I am in constant wonder at the creations & devotions of the artist I find in SL. I use SL as my personal playground and with my photos I try to capture a brief moment to share or remember.

Lighting and mood are critical components in my photos. My goal is to tell a story in a single photo.I freely use tools available in SL. I may have a goddess complex because I enjoy playing with the sun and the moon. I use very little outside photo enhancement tools other than cropping, preferring to keep true to the essence of Sl
